You may wonder where celebrities get their designer jewellery from for the most important award ceremonies. Many of them simply borrow special pieces created by designers determined to get a wide audience for their talents. However, as with most borrowed things the lovely jewellery has to be given back at the end of the evening.
Amongst one of the most collectable items are the silver and pave diamond initial necklaces frequently worn by Madonna, and Britney Spears, both have been photographed with these lovely but very simple pieces which enhance any outfit. Similarly, drop silver earrings are a favourite of these two superstars, and browsing through the online designer jewellery shops will give you lots of ideas for copying this look.
Throughout history the diamond has been a favourite way to say ‘I Love You’. Celebrities love their diamonds, especially on their engagement rings. Maximillian1 of Austria gave the first diamond engagement ring on record, and this was to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. He commissioned the ring to unite their two houses and symbolically unite their two countries. In 1518 the smallest engagement ring ever made was presented to the 2 year old Princess Mary who was married by proxy to the young Dauphin of France. Possibly she was not very impressed by her gift, probably preferring a rather more child friendly plaything.
Following on these traditions, the fabulous Elizabeth Taylor was engaged to her third husband Michael Todd with an emerald cut diamond that weighted almost 30 carats, and Prascilla was engaged to Elvis with a 3.5 carat diamond engagement ring, encircled by another 21 smaller diamonds and diamond chips.
Look out for a ring modelled on the one given to Catherine Zeta-Jones by Michael Douglas, it was an antique marquise diamond, estimated at about 2 million. Perhaps more modest but very beautiful, is the ring given by Guy Ritchie to Madonna, a romantic three-stone diamond with a decorative platinum band. The three stones intended to represent their family, mother, father, and son Rocco. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Paris Hilton has trumped everyone by being presented with two diamond engagement rings from billionaire Paris Latsis. The total cost amounting to more than 7 million dollars, the two rings are stunningly set diamonds on a band of platinum.
Not to be left out Britney Spears also has two engagement rings, one she bought for herself before her wedding, and one that she received 9 months after the marriage from her husband Kevin Federline.
Of special interest, and often replicated for the modern woman, is the stunning pink diamond ring that Ben Affleck gave to Jennifer Lopez. This 6 carat radiant shaped pink diamond has been much admired and much copied, it is both feminine and modern looking, and is featured on the Gemondo site.
